Fiberglass Tanks in Action!

KBK fiberglass tanks were recently installed at the Syracuse, NY Hancock International Airport.  These tanks are used in processing and storage for the first Glycol Recover, Recycle and Reuse Plant.

The innovative full-cycle approach shrinks the airport’s CO2 footprint, drastically decreases the need for offsite water treatment, reduces deicing expenses and creates a self-sufficient supply chain for the crucial fluid.

KBK provided custom fiberglass tanks that included site specific design and engineering.  Our customer was especially pleased with the ease of working with KBK. KBK delivered to specification, on time and on budget!

Uses of KBK Fiberglass Tanks

Fiberglass tanks have a variety of uses across different industries due to their favorable characteristics. Some common applications include:

Chemical Storage

Fiberglass tanks are resistant to a wide range of chemicals, making them suitable for storing corrosive substances. They are often used in industries such as water treatment, petrochemicals, and agriculture.

Aquaculture

Fiberglass tanks are utilized in aquaculture for fish farming. They can be used to create fish tanks, hatcheries, and other aquatic holding systems due to their corrosion resistance and durability.

Municipal

Fiberglass tanks are commonly used for Brine storage for road deicing. KBK’s underground fiberglass tanks are used for splash pads in parks and run off water capture.

Mining Industry

Fiberglass tanks find applications in the mining industry for the storage of various liquids used in mining processes. These include leaching solutions and process chemicals.

Fire Water Protection

Fiberglass tanks are used for storing water in fire protection systems. Their durability and resistance to corrosion make them a reliable choice for long-term water storage in emergency situations.

Oil and Gas Industry

Fiberglass tanks are used in the oil and gas industry for storing various liquids, including crude oil, chemicals, and salt water. They are resistant to corrosion and ability can withstand harsh environmental conditions.

Water Storage

Fiberglass tanks are commonly used for storing potable water, wastewater, and other liquids. They are preferred for water storage because they are resistant to rust and corrosion, lightweight, and durable.

Agricultural Applications

Fiberglass tanks are resistant to a wide range of chemicals, making them suitable for storing corrosive substances. They are often used in industries such as water treatment, petrochemicals, and agriculture.

Industrial Process Tanks

Many industrial processes involve the use of corrosive substances or extreme temperatures. Fiberglass tanks are chosen for their ability to withstand these conditions and provide a reliable storage solution.

Benefits of Fiberglass Tanks

Fiberglass tanks offer several benefits in various applications due to their unique properties. Some of the key advantages include:

Corrosion Resistant

Fiberglass tanks are highly resistant to corrosion from chemicals, acids, and other harsh substances. This makes them suitable for storing corrosive materials without the risk of tank degradation.

Strength and Durability

Despite their lightweight nature, fiberglass tanks are strong and durable, and they have a high strength-to-weight ratio. This makes them capable of withstanding various environmental conditions and stresses, including seismic activity.

UV Resistance

Fiberglass tanks typically have good resistance to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. This helps prevent degradation and fading when exposed to sunlight. This makes them suitable for outdoor applications.

Customization

Fiberglass tanks can be sized/ outfitted with couplings and flanges, customized for your requirements. This flexibility is especially beneficial for applications with space constraints or unique design needs.

Cost-Effective

Fiberglass tanks are less costly than steel or stainless-steel tanks. Durability and low maintenance requirements make fiberglass tanks a very cost-effective storage solution.

Lightweight

Fiberglass tanks are generally lighter than tanks made from materials such as steel or concrete. This makes them easier to transport, handle, and install, and reduces the need for heavy equipment during installation.

Non-Conductive

Fiberglass is a non-conductive material, which means it does not conduct electricity. This property makes fiberglass tanks suitable for storing materials that may be sensitive to electrical conductivity. This also reduces the risk of sparks or other electrical issues.

Low Maintenance

Fiberglass tanks often require minimal maintenance compared to other materials. They are less prone to rust, and their smooth surfaces make them easy to clean.

Long Service Life

When properly manufactured and installed, fiberglass tanks can have a long service life. They are resistant to many environmental factors that can contribute to the deterioration of other materials. Fiberglass tanks can last 20 to 40 years with proper maintenace.
